Warren, PA- North Western Bank $5 July 4, 1861 G10a Hoober 425-15 Crisp Unc
This gorgeous note, printed by The National Bank Note Company, features a large vignette of a stockyard outside of a slaughterhouse flanked by an oval portrait of Washington at upper left and a vignette of a young woman at lower right. A striking red-orange FIVE protector nicely juxtaposes with the black ink of the main features.
Warren Pennsylvania is in the very northwest corner of the state, a short drive from lake Erie. Completely signed and numbered, one would be excused for thinking that this was a remainder note given its superb quality. However, this piece of currency is fully issued with all signatures and a serial number of 662.
The note was photographed on a black background. Due to the thinness of the paper, it makes the note look darker than it is in person. It is an exceptional note.
