Northampton, PA The Northampton Bank $100 Choice Fine 15, 1841
Circulating during the 1840s, this bill was emblematic of the period during which bank checks were evolving: the bill is made out to a specific person (John Romig) but is a bearer instrument. Whomever held this note could demand to be paid in coin upon surrender at the bank. Motifs include the horn of plenty (cornucopia) and trade with our rather relaxed ladies along with Washington and Franklin. Small tape repair top right.
The note was photographed on a black background. Due to the thinness of the paper, it makes the note look darker than it is in person.
